Rome palaces

Rome was built on 7 hills beside the Tiber River. The wealthy lived high on the hills away from the masses they feared and considered beneath them. Here they built palaces and villas. Rome was the capital of the world, so to speak in those days. The palaces of the wealthy were luxurious and the word palaces comes from one of the hills named Palatine Hill. One of the Roman emperors, Hadrian had an interest in architecture and built many palaces. Later during the Christian era, wealthy patrons of Rome such as cardinals and popes took a role in the building of many of Rome's Palaces.
