Piazza della Repubblica in Rome

The Piazza della Repubblica is a destination that should not be missed on any vacation to do list while visiting Rome. Here, under the guidance of Martin Rutelli, is a famous Italian constructed fountain, which is one of the most beautiful through out Italy. Aside from the well designed fountain, cafes are located through out the Piazza della Repubblica where one can have a nice lunch or dinner.

The fountain was constructed around a water theme in the early 1900’s when Rome felt the original was lacking in design. Four statues are situated around the fountain representing the ocean, lakes, streams and rivers.

Back in 302 A.D., near the location of the piazza, the well known Docletian’s baths were built to hold up to three thousand Romans and before the Piazza della Repubblica was constructed, the area was a gathering place for people selling meat. After the final world wars, the Piazza della Repubblica finally donned its current name even though it has been around since the 300s.

Hotels suited for business and vacationers alike are located near the Piazza della Repubblica for convenience and many of them offer walking tours which take you through the square. At night, the piazza is an amazing sight; it is lit up and on display. Sometimes demonstrations are held on the square where throngs of folks gather around. The Piazza della Repubblica in Rome continues to astound both locals who work at the banks and restaurants, and the international visitors year after year and has since the 1900s.
