Church of Sant'Andrea al Quirinale in Rome

Sant'Andrea al Quirinale church is located in Rome, Italy. It is the church of the Jesuit seminary on Quirinal Hill. It was used to initiate Jesuit novices. It took over twenty years to design, from 1658-1678. Bernini and de Rossi were the designers. The site where this church stands was previously occupied by San Andrea a Montecavallo. The Sant'Andrea al Quirinale in Rome was commissioned by Pope Alexander VII and Cardinal Camillo Pamphilj.Built in the Baroque architectural style of Rome, it embeds the art right into the structures. Bernini's son said that his father would spend hours just looking at the marbles, stuccoes and the interior light. The church has an elliptical shape, and the altar is high. It has a decorated semicircular porch.

The stucco was designed and executed between 1661 and 1666 having putti and cherubim underneath the windows. Borgognone's "Martyrdom of Saint Andrew" put on in 1668, stands on the altar. The Sant'Andrea al Quirinale has three chapels. In the first one, are three canvases by Baciccio; Death of San Francesco Saverio and two others hung in 1705. The second chapel has three by Brandi; a Deposition, a Flagellation and a Road to Calvary hung in 1682. On the left, is a Madonna With Child and Saint Stanislao Kostka in 1687 by Maratta. There is also a ceiling fresco of Glory of the Saints by Odazzi. The third chapel has a Madonna and Child and Saints by Mazzanti and a ceiling with Glory of the Angels by Chiari.
